Episode-34 May 2013 Updates from The Farming Podcast

It’s May already and things are already crazy busy.  I have been working on all kinds of projects… at the same time!  I have already planted over 50 different things.

Thanks to everyone who bought the seed mix.  I will try to offer this again next year.  I have planted test beds of 3 different seed mixtures.  I will post results of the test in video and photos when I see how the mixes perform.

Thanks to everyone who bought the Garden Planting Calculator  I am still refining and adding vegetables to this.  I am really enjoying using the app as I plant things.

We continue our land search and have been finding some interesting properties.  None of the properties have everything we are looking for yet.  Here are some things we are thinking about with our land search.

  • Location somewhere in Lancaster County PA
  • Size of at least 3 acres
  • South Facing Slope
  • Not too expensive!

I am trying to trap bee swarms for my hive this year. Here’s the link to the book I am using.    It’s not a very long book, but very helpful.  I hope to build 5 of these traps and catch a swarm soon.

I am taking a Permaculture Design Course with Geoff Lawton this year.  I am super excited about this and know it will really help with my farming goals.  I already had the goal to create a food forest in my yard for next year.

Remember to keep seeing all the opportunities you have.  Think about what you do have more than what you don’t have.
